ABOUT US

THE POWER OF WE: THE MAKING CONNECTIONS NETWORK

We're a community movement, powered by people making change in four Louisville neighborhoods: California, Phoenix Hill, Shelby Park and Smoketown. There are 2,600 network members who live, work or worship in these neighborhoods.

We work together to make our lives and our communities stronger. Strong communities ensure that our kids can grow up healthy and ready to learn.

As members, we all want:

To live in strong, connected neighborhoods: When we connect with each other, we have fun, help each other, and use our influence to change our communities for the better.

To do satisfying work: In the Network, you'll find a faster track to meaningful work that offers good benefits - education, retirement savings, health insurance and more.

To enjoy and accumulate the money we earn: You don't have to be wealthy to make your money work for you. In the Network, we believe a goal, a plan and the right mix of support and financial products can help you build a better bottom line for your family.

To raise our children healthy and ready for school: The Network can connect you to a variety of partners working to make sure our kids are healthy and have opportunities to succeed.

All of these goals, and specific ways to reach them, are discussed at Network gatherings such as monthly Network Nites, held on the third Thursday of each month at a location in one of our four neighborhoods.

At Network Nite, you can meet with specialists in a variety of fields, and with your neighbors who may have experiences that can help you get where you want to go. And dinner is provided. Check out our home page to see when and where we're holding the next one.

Making Connections is the flagship initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Its core strategy helps children succeed based on the belief that the best way to improve outcomes for vulnerable children living in tough neighborhoods is to strengthen their families’ connections to economic opportunity, positive social networks, and effective services and supports.

OUR THEORY OF CHANGE

The Making Connections Network is more than a community group or association. It is a holistic system for family strengthening and community transformation, with an unrelenting focus on results.

The Network is about:

  • Building community demand for results, by mobilizing residents and stakeholders around an equity agenda creating opportunity for families and transforming neighborhoods. The Network is about higher aspirations, and about providing both the expectation of a better future as well as the connections and collective power to pursue it.
  • Creating new connections to systems and organizations by creating new avenues and approaches for interacting with systems that otherwise pose barriers.
  • Transforming the environment to sustain the change, creating family-centered, equitable, results-focused systems that work for all families.
  • Holding ourselves and others accountable for what we say we are doing in community.
