Before housing development Sheppard Square was torn down as part of a federal HOPE VI project, Lavel White, a 26-year-old local documentary filmmaker, longtime Network member, and former Smoketown resident, interviewed residents of Sheppard Square to tell the story of the neighborhood. On Friday, August 30th, The Network lost a mighty Power Member, Ms. Pam Newman. Ms. Pam was simply and affectionately known as “Pam’s Mom.” She was fully committed to The Network and social justice, with an unrelenting desire to right the many social wrongs. Ms. Pam had a way of pushing you to examine your perspective, your truths and who you are in community.
